We are very excited for BOYNE Racing’s Holiday Camp to begin in two days! We will have many of our team members in camp, and we are also hosting a good number of you who will be having your first BOYNE Racing experience.
Members and non-members alike: we must receive your completed registration form and payment before you will be allowed to participate in any training sessions. I strongly recommend that you do that tomorrow, because If you wait until Thursday morning to register, you may miss some training. Reminder to members: if you register for the season and make your initial payment, you qualify for the reduced Holiday Camp rate of $200.
We will have a short orientation at 7:30 a.m. on December 27th in the Civic Center. We will have a registration table set up to provide you with the schedule and group assignment. We will be on slalom equipment for the first day, and will let you know then what the plan is for the rest of camp.
As we did last year, we will be training with an early lift starting at 8:00 a.m. We are very thankful that the resort is extending this early service, because it allows us to get our training in before the general public comes out in numbers. Each day, we will train on North Boyne from 8:00am – 10:30am and 1:00pm – 3:00pm. During the lunch break, we will review video from the morning session. Your coach will let you know your schedule for video review.
Video Review Goals
Because of the number of campers, we will need to be efficient with our video review time. For non-members: our review sessions have two simple goals: 1) see and understand correct technique and tactics, and 2) see and understand mistakes. Once you understand correct movements and tactics, it is counter-productive to repeatedly view incorrect ones. Plan to take five minutes to yourself after your video session, and do some repeated visualizations of the positive practices you saw. This mental effort can have a bigger positive impact on your skiing than almost any other training activity.
The beginning of the season is a good time to refresh our effort to be ambassadors to all resort customers, especially the ones who don’t have a specific interest in racing. The coaching staff continues to be impressed and proud of the conduct of the young athletes we work with – you have an exemplary record, and should be proud of it. This year, let’s go even further by remembering to be proactive in spreading good will – not just avoiding negative behaviors, but making an effort to be friendly and approachable with the non-racing customers we share the lift with. If you know how our superstar lift op, Duane, treats people – well then you have the idea.
Parent’s Mixer (full season team member parents only)
We will have an informal parent’s mixer on Thursday, December 27th from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m. to discuss the season, your kids’ progress, and answer any questions you may have. The event will be in the Vienna B room of the Mountain Grand Lodge at Boyne Mountain, as in the past. There will be soft drinks, snacks, and a cash bar.
