During the snowstorm we are having here at Boyne, we have been hunkered down, making plans for a race camp this summer. We are pleased to invite you to travel with us to Oregon for exceptional training on beautiful Mt Hood from June 20th to June 29th. The best ski racers in the world use Timberline Resort as their summer training headquarters. If you have never made the trip, you are missing out on a huge opportunity for improvement and fun.

As you have come to expect with this group of coaches, the focus for this camp will be on your long term improvement as ski racers. As many of you have found out this year, when you work hard and commit to the mental effort required, success shows itself in the short term as well. We are excited to help the progress continue – and accelerate!

• 9 days with seven days of on-snow training

Hello BOYNE Racers -

Gary Miller and I were on the hill yesterday assisting Boyne Highlands area manager Joe Breighner with building terrain for this weekend’s Speed Camp. We are very excited for this opportunity, and we want to thank the many Boyne Highlands managers and staff who are helping with this project.

PLEASE NOTE: Even if you are a season team member, you must still fax or email a Speed Camp registration form to the Highlands (instructions on the form – attached). Please do this no later than tomorrow!

We have heard murmurs that some are concerned that trading speed training for tech training this weekend might negatively impact tech results in upcoming races (notably the state championship high school race). A couple points: 1) You are not going to make big changes to your tech technique in a couple training sessions. 2) This speed training will help your tech skiing. You’re going to have to trust me on this one – I know it is not exactly intuitive, but I’ve personally experienced it many times – it works!

Note that we did add a Monday steep SL session (below).

SCHEDULE CHANGE: As plans have come together for our speed activities, it became clear to us that the full length training activities we want to do would not be practical or safe while there are any public skiers on the hill. Therefore, those full length sessions will take place prior to the lift opening, This means a 7:00 a.m. lift for us – and, no, that’s not a typo. Here is the updated schedule (which replaces the schedule listed on the flyer):

7:45 – 9:15a: Downhill training on Tournament Pass
9:30 – 10:30a: Tuck turns and Wave Track
10:30 – 11:30a: Video and Timing analysis – Challenger Warming Hut
11:45a – 12:45p: Lunch

1:00 – 3:00p: Group 1 – Timed Glide Track – 40 minutes, then switch to Flight
Group 2 – Flight Training – 40 minutes, then switch to Glide
3:30 – 4:30p: Video and Timing analysis – Challenger Warming Hut

Sunday, February 19th

1:15 – 2:45p: Group 1 – Timed Glide Track – 30 minutes, then switch to Flight

Monday, February 20th

We have added a SL training session 9 – 11 a.m. on Monday, February 20th on Superbowl at Boyne Mountain for those who don’t have school and want to polish up their steep SL technique prior to the upcoming high school state championship races.

It’s going to be a fun and productive weekend!
